Impressive 10 Years of the GDA – and More To Come

The Guernsey Disability Alliance reaches its first decade today and is marking the 10th anniversary by focusing on their new Partnership model. Supporters are also being asked to take a table at their celebration ball in August.

‘We are encouraging local businesses to support our work of our diverse membership (40+ member charities plus individual members and carers) and all 13,000 disabled islanders and 4,000 carers.  We are looking for much needed financial support in the way of donations and sponsorship opportunities, as well as time from volunteers for events or using skills and experience,’ said Karen Blanchford.

She pointed out that there are many opportunities for businesses to get involved using CSR, staff events, charity of the year, publicity on vehicles with more online at  http://disabilityalliance.org.gg/support/

Karen continued: ‘Our Patron Baroness Grey-Thompson, had put her voice behind our request for support which we are delighted with and hope will add kudos to our call to get involved during our 10th year.

Baronness Grey-Thompson said: “I am totally inspired by the abilities and achievements of the Guernsey Disability Alliance. However, in common with many third sector organisations, the GDA is facing funding issues and these couldn’t come at a more challenging or frustrating time. Having suffered delays, there is now real momentum in the States of Guernsey’s Disability and Inclusion Strategy and it’s vital that disabled people, through the work of the Alliance, continue to be consulted and actively involved. The GDA’s representation of the needs and protection of the rights of so many islanders affected by disability is something Guernsey should be proud of, and working to preserve. I challenge the local community to get behind the GDA and to help its dedicated team to continue their vital work.”
