Young Business Group
The Guernsey Young Business Group (YBG) was formed some four decades ago to provide a specific focus for the younger element of the business community to meet, discuss common issues and extend their business network. Today the group's primary objective remains unchanged.
Over the years YBG has grown in size and now boasts in excess of 100 members representing a diverse range of business areas from within the island. The result is a melting pot of skills, knowledge and views, providing members with a real opportunity to socialise and broaden their contacts through every area of business.
The main focus of YBG's regular activity is the monthly lunch club which gives a chance for informal discussion before and during a meal followed by a presentation from a topical speaker. In addition YBG organise a number of events including an annual trip to Herm, a quiz and a biennial ball. For 2007 the group is developing more activities including organisation of additional evening events focused around guest speakers.
As well as the socially focussed events organised by the group, YBG is also responsible for a number of other activities such as the annual Business Trends Survey undertaken on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce. This year for the first time it was administered as an on-line survey considerably speeding up the process of completing the questionnaire and collating data. YBG is keen to encourage new and young businesses through organising the Bill Green Award for Entrepreneurial Spirit and is also proud to be a founder member of the Guernsey Enterprise Agency. The Island community is also supported through YBG's long running commitment to coordinate the hanging of the Christmas Lights display in St Peter Port, which culminates in the big 'switch on day'.
Guiding all these activities is a council elected annually from the membership. If you are interested in joining or simply finding out more about the group, its members and its activities you can visit the website at www.ybg.gg . On the site, as well as features on events, activities and speakers, you will find contact details for the current council who you can get in touch with for more information on YBG.
