Although the Ordinance is still being finalised and has yet to be placed before the States, 2016 will finally see the introduction of maternity, adoption and support leave rights into Guernsey for the first time. Without question for some smaller employers who do not currently have a maternity policy this is going to be a significant change, however, even the largest and most generous employers will still be affected to some extent. We are therefore delighted that Toni Airley, Principal Employment Relations Officer from Commerce & Employment has agreed to run a workshop which will seek to offer an explanation of the Resolutions already approved and how businesses can ready themselves to deal with the provisions contained within the proposed Ordinance. Toni is well known to all members and has been working on the implementation of the proposals since the States passed Resolutions in February 2012 to provide statutory maternity, adoption and support leave, so is uniquely placed to provide valuable insight into the practical operation of how the new rights are likely to operate. In addition Richard Sheldon, our branch Policy Advisor and employment lawyer at Appleby will present some interactive case studies around problem areas that you may experience, and challenge you to find a solution on your tables which does not involve reaching for the compromise agreement!
