CIPD logo file
  • Time & Date:
    30/03/2017: 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
    (Past Event)
  • Venue: Les Cotils
  • Price: £25-35

Ellie Jones from Liberate will explore with us the importance and practicalities of how to make our workplaces LGBTQ friendly by making small changes that can make a big difference. We will discuss some of the issues faced by the LGBTQ community in the workplace, LGBTQ terminology and the differences between gender and sexuality. In addition, Ellie will highlight some of the ‘do’s and don’ts’, provide some simple updates that can be applied to company policies and discuss some common issues that may arise and discuss how to resolve them to grow an inclusive and diverse workplace.

Most LGBTQ people live in a world that assumes they don’t exist, where everything is phrased and tailored towards a lifestyle that doesn’t reflect their own. Businesses that show that they actively think about and value the diversity that exists foster a more inclusive, accepting, and friendly environment. This is turn makes it a more desirable place to work and for customers to engage with.

Liberate, Guernsey’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Questioning (LGBTQ) charity, was established in Guernsey in 2014 to educate and inform on a wide range of LGBTQ issues and to support those who identify as LGBTQ and their families and friends. They campaign to reform policies and laws for equality, as well as questioning social attitudes and behaviours which discriminate against LGBTQ people, offering advice and help in tackling homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, etc.

12.00 – 2.00pm. Registration is at 12.00 for a 12.15 start. A light lunch will be provided.
