Am I going to get my states pension when I retire?

This FREE session run by thebestof Guernsey and Sean Gillease from Concept Group at Le Petit Café is aimed at all local businesses interested in a brief overview of the current pension options available in Guernsey, together with an update on the ongoing proposals from the States of Guernsey to introduce compulsory employer sponsored pension savings (secondary pensions – similar to auto enrolment in the UK) in the coming years.

Secondary pensions will help to ensure people have more saved for their retirement, but will also result in certain obligations for local employers and so will require all local businesses to take note and act accordingly.

The landscape for work and pensions both in Guernsey and globally has been changing dramatically in recent times and with people living longer, the state pension alone can no longer support people in retirement.

This has resulted in the retirement age being increased, meaning that people will be forced to work for longer and the level of state pension available has also been reduced in order to try and make this more sustainable. But the reality is that relying on the state old age pension alone will leave people in a very difficult position and everyone should be looking to make additional savings for their retirement from as early as possible.
