    (Past Event)
  • Venue: St James, St Peter Port, Guernsey
  • Price: £80

After its successful inaugural event in 2016, FinVention will be held for the second time on Wednesday 15th November 2017 at St James, St Peter Port, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which is celebrated in 125 countries across six continents worldwide and is celebrated locally by Startup Guernsey.

Combining three central themes – Digital Guernsey, Great People and Great Innovations – FinVention 2017 will be an interactive one-day forum showcasing ‘the best of breed’ in innovative technological products and services in the FinTech, digital, creative and start-up sectors.

The FinVention Stage will feature a number of fast paced presentations from individuals and companies who have products and services at different stages of development; some may be at the initial stages of securing investment, others will be more mature and will have adapted to the ever increasing consumer demand for innovation and invention. FinVention 2017 is the opportunity to connect participants to potential collaborators; to demonstrate inventive ideas to secure interest and constructive feedback and to attract first or second-stage investment into technologically driven products and services across all types of business.

FinVention is supported by local government and industry as well as by partner organisations the Digital Greenhouse, Locate Guernsey and Startup Guernsey. The Committee for Economic Development, working through Digital Guernsey, is fully supportive of FinVention and is committed to working with industry to provide the right environment to facilitate and support digital businesses to be commercially successful in Guernsey.

“Communication is at the heart of the digital and borderless technological age which now dominates and shapes the 21st century” said Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, member of both Committees for Economic Development and for Education. “Guernsey has already demonstrated its leadership role in supporting and encouraging digital innovation across all sectors from Finance to Creative. FinVention is an ideal platform for the newest technological products and services to communicate and stimulate conversation between purchasers, users, partners and investors.”

The keynote speaker for FinVention 2017 will be Gemma Godfrey, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Moola, the online personal finance firm and has earned the description of being “the UK’s most influential FinTech entrepreneur.” Advisor to Arnold Schwarzenegger on The New Celebrity Apprentice, Gemma is a consumer champion on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, BBC Breakfast and Sky News and was named one of the “Most Powerful Women in London” by CityAM.

A former quantum physicist, Gemma previously headed Investment Strategy for a publicly-listed wealth manager with £8billion of assets.

Featured by The Times as a “route to the best financial advice”, Gemma’s firm Moola is a low cost, simple to understand and easy to access investment service. Employers can enhance the financial wellbeing of their staff and financial advisers can satisfy the needs of smaller clients.

Gemma was the Head of Investment Strategy at Brooks Macdonald, Chairman of the Investment Committee at Credo Capital and a Fund Manager at GAM, after starting her career at Goldman Sachs. She is a Board Advisor to Templars and CLU School of Management.
