Michael Ridge, Board Director and Head of Public Policy Practice at Frontier Economics will be talking on behavioural economics and discussing policy issues that are high on the new government’s agenda with the aim of making connections with the evidence they have on BE policies.

Behavioural economics blends insights from economics and psychology to understand how and why people make the decisions they do. First brought to popular attention by bestselling books like Nudge, ideas from behavioural economics are now being used routinely by governments around the world to develop new approaches to policy.

From education to pensions, via tax payments and energy use, almost every aspect of public policy is now starting to be seen through a behavioural lens. In this presentation Michael Ridge, a Director at Frontier Economics, will highlight just some of the ways in which behavioural economics is starting to transform thinking about UK policy and ask what lessons there might be for Guernsey’s government and business community.

Frontier Economics is Europe’s leading economic consultancy, with almost 200 employees across Europe. Frontier provides clients in the private and public sectors with expert economic advice on matters of regulation, competition, strategy and public policy.

Over the last ten years, Frontier’s Public Policy Practice, led by Michael, has provided advice to the States and other bodies in Guernsey on a range of issues including skills, tax reform, economic development and infrastructure. Frontier now has a permanent presence in Guernsey and is looking to grow its on-island economic footprint in the years ahead.
