Liberation window display competition pulls in the votes

EFG Private Bank in St Julian’s Avenue has been announced as overall winner of the liberation-themed window display competition, organised for VisitGuernsey by Chamber members Collaborate Communications.

Over 1,000 nominations were received for windows located around the island as well as in Alderney, Sark and Herm. The competition was hotly contested with only 13 votes separating the displays in first, second and third place. Organised by Collaborate Communications as part of VisitGuernsey’s Heritage Festival, retail outlets and other businesses were asked to capture the spirit of this important event in the islands’ history in an imaginative and fun, colourful and thought-provoking way as we mark the 70 year anniversary of liberation from German occupation.

The EFG display was designed by administration assistant, Pauline McConnell (pictured right), using family memorabilia for many of the props. The company was presented with a specially commissioned trophy, designed by local jeweller Becky Rowe and manufactured by Atec Engineering. All voters who nominated EFG as winner were entered into a draw for a 4 star weekend break in Jersey with Condor Ferries; this was won by Dave Girard.

Zoe Ash from VisitGuernsey (pictured left) is delighted with the interest that the competition attracted:

‘So many organisations have got behind the competition and captured the spirit of the islands’ liberation celebrations. There are some fabulous displays which the public are clearly enjoying judging from the number of votes we received and how close the results were. Congratulations to EFG for creating such a great spectacle in St Julian’s Avenue.’
