The GTA University Centre is once again running Bournemouth University’s MSc Corporate Governance in Guernsey starting on 1 September 2017.
This exciting course has enjoyed huge success over the past 20 years that it has run in Guernsey, with previous students praising its academic rigour, focus on practical applications, and flexible delivery.
The course is suitable for company directors, lawyers, accountants, senior managers, company secretaries and anyone whose position requires them to have a deep understanding and practical knowledge of how organisations should operate and be governed.
Kate Lenfestey, the GTA’s Head of University Programmes said:
“We first ran this MSc with Bournemouth University in 1997 with a cohort of 15 students. Here we are 20 years later and the course’s longevity is testament to its high quality and relevance to the bailiwick’s industry and workforce. We think the course’s continued success is partly due to the fact that it’s part-time and can be fitted around work and family commitments.”
Good corporate governance means good business. Its focus on best practice in management of tax, finance, law, morals, risk, and globalisation allows businesses to steady themselves within shifting political and regulatory landscapes.
Simon Le Tocq, the GTA’s Chief Executive continued:
“Partnering with leading universities, such as Bournemouth, allows the GTA to provide local students with access to UK-based courses and lecturers without the need for costly travel to the UK. We can offer students a learning environment with the focused support and attention that is only possible with a small cohort. They will also benefit from world class teaching programmes enriched by the experience of leading academics, here in Guernsey.”
The course was developed by Bournemouth University in close collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA). It is essentially a mixture of finance, law and governance focusing on the role of corporate administration (private, public and not-for-profit organisations). On graduation, successful students gain Graduate ICSA status, in addition to the MSc.
Teaching starts on 1 September 2017 and runs across two academic years (September – July). To allow students to fit the course in around their other commitments, the taught aspects of the course are delivered over roughly 10 two-day blocks (Fridays & Saturdays) over each academic year. Students who pass this taught element of the course will then be admitted to the research project stage to achieve the MSc.
