Festive Décor

Festive Decor  is owned by the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce.  It is the charity responsible for the ownership and annual erection of the Guernsey Christmas lights in St. Peter Port. The Christmas lights are 100% funded by charitable donations and have been since the first string of lights was put up in 1964.

The erection of the Christmas lights is co-ordinated by Festive Decor and man power is provided by various groups including the Young Business Group ("YBG") who also co-ordinate Switch On Day.

Testing, maintaining and putting up/taking down Christmas lights is an expensive business.  It is estimated that (due to the inclusion of the new displays and the increasing cost of Switch On Day) around £30,000 will need to be raised  every year to ensure the lights go up.

Festive Decor does not receive any States funding, contrary to popular belief, so responsibility for the lights falls to the charity and the Guernsey community.

It is therefore never too early to start thinking about Christmas.  Visit www.guernseychristmaslights.com to find out more about Festive Decor.
