The second phase of the major refurbishment of the freight berths at St Peter Port Harbour will begin shortly. As previously announced, this will require a section of North Beach car park to be used as a temporary storage area, and earlier this year Public Services consulted with stakeholders regarding the provision of alternative parking arrangements.
The feedback from the consultation formed part of the subsequent mitigation proposals. The Environment Department has since confirmed the revised arrangements, to provide additional public parking in areas of the East Arm and Castle Emplacement currently reserved for other uses. This will result in there being only around 10 fewer long-term spaces than at present.
The attached plan shows the changes to North Beach car park, the temporary access arrangements for other areas of the harbour, and the location of the new parking area on Castle Emplacement. Please feel free to make copies of this plan to share with your members.
These temporary arrangements will come into effect from Monday 16
The refurbishment of the freight handling facilities is an essential strategic project for the island, and inevitably there will be greater pressure on space in and around the harbour while this work is underway. The project team believes that the co-operation of all users can help to limit the impact of these changes.
