Chamber Lunch - Hugh Bygott-Webb & Bob Duffield from Y Ltd. The Undercover World of Business Intelligence
Please join us for our February 15th Lunch in which the Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce that Hugh Bygott-Webb and his colleague from London, Bob Duffield of Y limited will be our guest speakers. They will give members a rare insight into the undercover world of commercial intelligence.
Y limited is a specialist agency based in the City of London with a network of agents worldwide. Named after the listening stations set up across the British Empire in the Second World War to gather information on the Nazi war effort, Y uses cyber techniques to assist old fashioned human intelligence to gather information, deep due diligence, asset tracing and counterparty risk assessment for blue chip clients, Government Departments, banks, private equity funds, lawyers, insurance companies, hedge funds and High Net Worth individuals.
Hugh, who may be better known to you for opposing Roger Perrot in the recent constitutional debate, is a trained barrister who spent much of his life as a television producer and investigative journalist before returning to Guernsey to work as a bank regulator with the GFSC. It was during his time producing Dispatches programmes for Channel Four that he first met Bob Duffield.
Bob entered the world of corporate intelligence after building his reputation as an investigative journalist on major current affairs and documentary programmes for BBC, ITV and Channel Four (1982-96). Amongst other successes, he uncovered new evidence that led the Court of Appeal to quash the convictions of two prisoners serving Life sentences. In 1996 he was approached by Kroll Associates to freelance as an investigator. In 1997 he was headhunted to be Senior Associate at Asmara Limited, a boutique business intelligence agency in London. In 1999 he set up Y Ltd.
It was a chance meeting last year at the City of London’s Guild Hall that brought Bob and Hugh together again after over a decade and they decided to set up a branch of Y Limited in Guernsey to service the financial services sector in the Channel islands.
Chamber of Commerce President Paul Luxon said "We have been enjoying a series of challenging, fascinating, thought provoking Speakers at recent Chamber lunches - and I am sure this months’ will be no different as Hugh shares with us his expertise on 'business intelligence'. Within the business community we need to constantly adopt new methods of business analysis to enable us to manage our companies more effectively, and so we look forward to hearing from Hugh his approach."
The lunch, in association with Image Group Ltd, will be held in the Regency Room of the OGH Hotel, oteH12.15 for 12.30pm on Monday 15 February. Bookings for individual places or tables can be made with the Chamber Office by emailing carrie.birch@guernseychamber.com. Please click here to download a booking form.
