  • Chamber’s Annual Dinner at St. James with a key note speech from the Chief Minister and attended by our Patron the Lt. Governor and the Bailiff – well attended.
  • Festive Décor and YBG completed the town Christmas lights switch on successfully, great turn out on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
  • Chamber monthly Exec meeting – rolling agenda.
  • Chamber monthly lunch event, kindly sponsored by Image Group, with guest speaker Frank Walker ex-Chief Minister of the States of Jersey with 95 Chamber members and guests attending.
  • Planning meeting to review 2009 Chamber objectives and agree new objectives for 2010.
  • Preparation and planning for the Chamber AGM and Supper on Wednesday 24th March.
  • Population sub group monthly meeting - following up with the Policy Council Population Group work party on the developing strategy in this key area.
  • Meeting of the Waste and Energy sub group and of the Small Business Group.
  • Attended the Commerce & Employment Workshop on Skills in the Labour Market.
  • Working level update with Commerce & Employment.
  • Finalised the details of the 2009 Business Trends Survey in conjunction with YBG and Island Analysis – survey to be conducted first quarter of 2010.
  • Early planning for next year’s Annual Directory which will be merged with Contact to form a bumper March/April 2010 publication.
  • Strategy meeting with Festive Décor.
  • Meeting with Environment (Traffic Dept) regarding parking in Town.
  • Submission to the Environment Department regarding customer direction signage issues for Town based businesses – review of the current legislation required.
  • Involvement in the Awards for Achievement 2009 judging panel – an excellent range of Guernsey businesses entered this year.
  • Discussions with States Economist regarding their Business Survey which is due for release next year.
  • Bank of England briefing on the UK economy trends and projections with outlook for 2010-2012, organised by the C&E Department.
  • Monitoring of the swine flu pandemic situation to brief Chamber members of developing issues.
  • Continuing dialogue on the recently announced problem regarding Guernsey`s supposed non compliance with the `EU spirit of the code` in relation to zero/10.
  • Planning begins for the 2010 Chamber Annual Dinner – a significant business networking social event in the calendar.
  • Quarterly discussion meeting with fellow industry bodies – IOD, GIBA and CGi, to share updates on common issues.
  • Continuation of the `I Buy GSY` campaign to support on-island businesses where ever possible to optimise the economic benefit locally.
  • Guernsey Chamber of Commerce signs up to The Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change.
